This February marked the 30th Anniversary Children’s Fund Golf Classic. Having taken place on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Red Hill Country Club, this annual event is Children’s Fund’s biggest fundraiser year after year.
What’s on the Agenda
9am Registration and Breakfast
The day began at 9am when our golfers will meet at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga. After sign-in at our registration booth, participants were treated to a complimentary breakfast, courtesy of Baker’s Drive-Thru and Martha Green’s Dough’lectibles Bakery, to get the players fueled up for a day of golfing.
9:30am Shotgun
The golfers let loose at 9:30am with a ‘shotgun start.’ Each group is set up at a different starting hole and moves through the course in order, meaning that a group starting at hole 10 would play through to hole 18 and then play holes 1-9. This allows each group to make it through the course faster and more efficiently than everyone waiting at starting at hole 1.
11:30am Lunch Provided on Course
To keep the players going through the day, lunch will be provided for our golfers. This year, our lunch will be provided by The Habit. As the day goes on, we also offered a variety of different contests like a Hole-in-One for a brand-new car, and giveaways from brands like Extracurricular and Maui Jim.
3:30pm Cocktail Hour and Silent Auction
By about 3:30pm, golfers were wrapping up and headed back to the clubhouse where we had a cocktail hour waiting for them with live music and a cigar roller. At that time, our silent auction was going strong. With our best variety of items yet, bidders had the chance to take home golf outings, drink packages, concert tickets, and more.
4:30pm Founders’ Award Banquet, Live Auction, and Awards
The 30th Anniversary Children’s Fund Golf Classic culminated in our Founders’ Award Banquet at 4:30pm. This year’s Founders’ Award was awarded to Dee Dee Anderson for her continued contribution to Children’s Fund and our mission. Things really started getting exciting when we started our live auction. We had a lot of excellent items up for grabs this year, including ticket to see Carrie Underwood, paddleboards, and a 7 night stay in Hawaii. Following an entertaining auction, we moved on to our Fund-A-Cause, which was this year dedicated towards funding extracurricular scholarships for children. Guests were encouraged to pledge a donation, starting at $10,000 and gradually scaling down to just $100. But the best part was yet to come. The final person to pledge was going to take home a brand-new golf bag and full set of clubs from TaylorMade. This caused a frenzy as guests all over the room were making pledges to be the last person and take home the clubs. It was a sight to see.
With everything that we had planned this year and all of the tireless effort from our generous volunteers and Children’s Fund staff, we sought to put on a fantastic event and honor the 30 years that we have been doing this.
